how to get to Sesame Street
In 2017, I sent an audition packet to the Jim Henson Company with hopes of becoming a professional puppeteer. I didn't expect to hear back. In 2020, I got an email from a producer and puppet captain at Sesame Street, Matt Vogel. He said that due to the pandemic, production shut down and he had time to go through old submissions from the Jim Henson Company. Based on my letter, he thought I might be interested in Sesame Street. Shortly after, I joined Sesame Street's mentorship program where I trained in Muppet-style puppetry. In June of 2020, I was casted as Gabrielle for CNN's Townhall on Racism with Sesame Street. In 2021, I am became first full-time black woman puppeteer on Sesame Street through my role as the Gabrielle. I am so grateful for the opportunity inspire young girls around the world to love themselves and be confident in who they are.
